Keller CERT is pleased to announce the dates for the Spring 2012 CERT training class.

A flashlight is often needed during CERT activities, but trying to balance a hand held flashlight, a backpack, and still perform hands-on tasks is nearly impossible. A headlamp makes for a convenient, hands-free, way to illuminate the task at hand.

Since we will also often be wearing a hard hat, the logical place to put the lamp is on the hard hat. But if you've tried this, you will have likely encountered the primary problem with putting a headlamp on a helmet or hard hat: the elastic band wants to pop off because the helmet is round and gets smaller as you go up. Some of us have used Velcro™ tape in the past, but the tape can come off (leaving a sticky residue) and it attracts lint, dog hair, etc.

Petzl has developed a nifty little clip that solves this problem once and for all. Called the CROCHLAMP S, the clip attaches to the elastic band of the headlamp and then hooks under the brim of the hard hat or helmet.

The clips are available through a number of online retailers. I acquired my set through BrightGuy.

Training will begin on February 8, 2011 and run through April 19, 2011. Each session will be on Tuesday from 6:30pm to 9:30pm at the Keller Fire Admin building (110 W. Vine, Keller, TX).
