Tarrant County
"If 9-1-1 has so many people needing them that they cannot get to everyone in a timely manner... who, of necessity, become the responders right here in our own neighborhood?"
Answer: Us and our neighbors, because no one else will be immediately available.
This is why we are building the Keller Neighborhood Emergency Preparedness (KNEP) Program!Â
This program is designed to improve disaster readiness at the neighborhood level: 15-20 homes, a small strip shopping area, or any other defined area that can be canvassed in approximately one hour. It teaches neighbors how to prepare for disasters and rely on each other during disaster response efforts while waiting on necessary support from fire, medical, police or utility responders. If you already have a Block Captain or Neighborhood Watch program, this will be a great addition.
KNEP is based upon the "Map Your Neighborhood" program developed by LuAn K. Johnson, PhD (2009), and is used with permission from the Washington State Emergency Management Public Education Program.
